Fontana girl killed at 16th-birthday party
May 29, 2012as
Two unidentified men shot and killed a girl while she celebrated her 16th birthday at a Fontana park, police said.
KTLA reported that the victim, Ashley Caldera, of Fontana, and a group of her friends were at Northgate Park in the 7800 block of Celeste Avenue when the men opened fire about 11 p.m. Saturday. Paramedics pronounced Caldera dead at the scene.
Police said the shooters did not know the group or the girl. No arrests have been made in the case.
One of the Caldera’s friends at the party, Jasmine Dominguez, 17, said she was at the victim’s side when she died.
“She was squeezing my hand and she just let go,” Dominguez said through tears. “I tried pressing her chest and she just … was dead.”
Dominguez said the shooters pulled up to the park in a car, got out of the vehicle and approached the group.
“They just asked us, ‘Where you from?'” she said. The teens then ran and Caldera fell, she said.
Caldera’s friends and family told KTLA that she was a good student and was soon hoping to get her driver’s license.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Fontana police at 909-356-TIPS.
