Man sentenced to 112 years for serial rapes in Orange County
June 22, 2012A Santa Ana man was sentenced Friday to 112 years to life in prison for raping five women and sexually assaulting a sixth.
The assaults by Sekayi Rudo White, 34, occurred from 2002 to 2007, and in one case White raped a woman while out on bail for other criminal charges.
Prosecutors say White met some of the victims at bars, he met another at driving school, he dated another and raped the roommate of the victim he dated.
The Lake Forest man was found guilty by a jury last year of 14 felony counts related to the crimes.
“He’s one of the worst sexual predators I’ve seen, and we’re just pleased that he’s off the streets,” Senior Deputy Dist. Atty. Tony Ferrentino said.
In several cases, White would attempt to assault his victims after they had been drinking, while they were passed out in bed, the Orange County D.A.’s office said in a statement. In one attack, White met a woman at a bar at the Irvine Spectrum, offered her a ride home and asked to use her bathroom. He exited naked, pinned the victim down and assaulted her.
In another case, White went to a Lake Forest bar where a 28-year-old woman who knew White was celebrating her birthday. After the woman was dropped off at home by a friend, White showed up at her house and was let in by the intoxicated woman around 2:30 a.m. White later forcibly raped her, prosecutors said.
In many cases, White threatened the victims to discourage them from alerting law enforcement. He held a knife to a woman’s neck while raping her and harassed a victim by showing up at her work and home after the rape.
White was arrested in 2006 within a year of raping two of the victims and raped a third five months later while out on bail, the district attorney’s office said. At that point, media reports helped encourage three additional victims to step forward.
Ferrentino said the 112-year sentence means White likely never will be paroled because he would have to serve 85% of the sentence — about 92 years.
