Recent Development in the Disappearance in Bay Area Nursing Student
September 8, 2011A woman who accused a nursing student of ruining her relationship with her boyfriend was arrested Wednesday in connection with her disappearance.
Giselle Esteban, 27, who went to high school with Michelle Le, 26, in San Diego County, had been a “person of interest” since Le disappeared May 27 in Hayward, Calif. Lee had gone out to retrieve something from her car outside the hospital where she worked and failed to return.
Esteban previously told a television station that she hated Le but had nothing to do with her disappearance.
Police said they found Le’s DNA on one of Esteban’s shoes, physical evidence that Esteban had been in Le’s car and security camera footage placing Esteban in the Hayward parking lot.
Le and Esteban attended Mt. Carmel High School in Rancho Penasquitos and both later moved to the East Bay. Le’s family said she was friends with Esteban’s estranged boyfriend but had never dated him.
The boyfriend obtained a restraining order against Esteban, accusing her of threatening him, three days before Le disappeared. He has primary custody of a child he fathered with Esteban.
Le’s family has raised $100,000 and organized volunteer searches of East Bay canyons in an effort to find her.
