Volunteers search for missing teen Sierra LaMar
March 28, 2012More than 200 people gathered Tuesday morning in Santa Clara County to help search for missing teen Sierra LaMar.
The 15-year-old hasn’t been seen since March 16 when she left home at 6 a.m. to catch a school bus nearby.
Her family contacted Sausalito-based The KlaasKids Foundation last week to ask for help in the search. Marc Klaas started the organization after his daughter Polly Klaas was kidnapped and killed in 1993.
The group agreed to organize volunteers to scour areas near where Sierra was last seen, said Klaas. They are expected to conduct searches in the mornings and early afternoons for at least a week through April 1.
“Given the fact that this is our own community,” said Klaas, “it was a very natural fit… This is one of the things that the KlaasKids Foundation does very well.”
On Monday, Santa Clara County Sheriff Sgt. Jose Cardoza told the San Jose Mercury News that he had no updates in the case. Tips about other attempted abductions and possible sightings of Sierra so far have been unfounded, he told the newspaper.
